Professional Drawings & Designs
Drawings and designs are a critical starting point for all septic systems. Taking information about flows from a house/facility and combining it with an understanding of the soil type is important to ensuring the system’s optimal functionality and longevity. At Springbank Septic, we only work with trusted and proven designers to ensure we have the best, code-compliant documents ready for the municipal permitting and approvals process, which is required before we can install a system.

Commercial Systems | Engineered Drawings
For commercial septic systems, an engineer is required for flows exceeding 1,250 gallons per day. These drawing are complex, so working with a professional engineer who is familiar with waste water is highly recommended.
The engineer is required to complete a site investigation that includes anticipated or metered water usage, accredited testing of sewage strength, and test pits for determining site soil layers and structure. Specific layers of soil are also tested by an accredited lab to confirm the percentage of sand, silt and clay present. All of this information is then used to size the septic tanks, the treatment plant, if required, and the field type and sizing. The engineer will give you a complete report with all documentation collected from site. All calculations from this information will be shown for its use in respective categories and a set of drawings will be issued for the building detailing the layout of required components, tanks sizes, pumps, and control panel parameters and abilities.
With these drawings, you can then have a certified septic system installer – like us – give you an official quote.
Residential Systems | Designs
For residential septic systems, a person carrying a valid certification of competency with Alberta Municipal Affairs is required. In most cases, this is a common ticket that many individuals have, however it doesn’t guarantee they’re competent to design your system.
At Springbank Septic, we only use trusted designers who have a good track record, based on their past work over a number of years. Septic system design is very important to the longevity of your system. Understanding how to read the onsite soil profiles and determine potential issues with them takes time and practice.
A professional residential septic system designer will require a form to be filled out and signed by the home owner. This form confirms the number of bedrooms and bathrooms in the house and makes note of any extra shower heads, soaker tubs, garburators, or plans to expand the house in the future. Onsite soil testing will also be completed in the area. The designer will take samples from specific layers and have them tested by an accredited lab. Using all the information, a system can be designed including tank sizing and field type and sizing.
With this completed professional design, you can then apply for permits and have a certified septic system installer – like us – give you an official quote.
